CQC is targeting risk, unassessed services and older ratings

CQC's May priorities distinguish service sectors, risks and rating age. Its August update reports more than 9,646 completed assessments against the earlier 9,000 target. These are operational updates, not a guaranteed timetable for a particular provider's next assessment.

Who this affects

  • Registered providers
  • Provider groups
  • Services with older ratings
  • Services awaiting first assessment

What to do now

  • Review the current priorities for the provider's sector.
  • Keep improvement evidence current even where the last rating is positive.
  • Avoid calculating an inspection date from rating age alone.
