New adult social care IPC guidance brings key resources together

UKHSA and DHSC have published consolidated infection prevention guidance for adult social care, including care homes, supported living and care in people's own homes.

What has been published

The UK Health Security Agency has published a consolidated infection prevention and control resource commissioned by the Department of Health and Social Care. Released on 28 October, it updates and brings together existing guidance for adult social care.

The resource covers standard and transmission-based precautions, outbreak recognition and reporting, staff health, and infection risks connected with everyday care and clinical interventions. It includes adaptations for support delivered in a person's home.

Why providers may want to review it

The publication offers a common reference point when reviewing existing arrangements. The relevant sections will differ by setting and the care people receive.

Keep the status clear

The source updates existing guidance. This summary does not establish a new statutory deadline or replace setting-specific professional advice.

Points to consider

CQCaudit interpretation for a provider’s own review.

  • Identify which sections apply to your service and its existing IPC arrangements.
